Nowadays Superhero Movies have become an icon in the popular culture.  All the comic book freaks wants to see their favorite superhero in the  live action films, fighting against the evil and saving the day. A long  time ago, there were many few proposals of adapting a comic book  superhero into a live action films, but still those projects which were  green-lit, somehow became successful. The clear example of these facts  is Superman: The Movie which was released in 1978 when there were less  technology facilities but still this movie became one of the greatest  superhero movies of all time and Marlon Brando’s portrayal of the title  character became a legend. Then after almost 11 years Tim Burton tried  his hands to adapt the superhero’s character in his film and he chose  Batman which was portrayed by Michael Keaton and it also became one the  greatest superhero movies of all time. Then gradually the trend was set  and then we saw a number of Superhero Movies in 90s and then from 2000  to onwards, we saw Spider-Man, X-Men, Batman, Superman, Iron Man,  Hellboy, Blade, Thor, Green Lantern and many other comic books heroes in  the big screen. So the purpose of sharing all these information with  you guys is to figure out the top ten greatest Superhero Movies of all  time which were successful both critically and commercially. After  searching the internet I have finally prepared the list. Let’s Check  out.
10. Thor (2011)

Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures attempted to add all the  superheroes in the live action films and after the success of Iron-Man  and Spder-Man, they then decided to develop Thor film with Kenneth  Branagh as the director and Chris Hemsworth as the lead actor who  portrayed Thor. This movie unveils the origin of Thor and his life and  how he happens to arrive to the Earth and his relationship with his  father Odin portrayed by Anthony Hopkins and Brother Loki portrayed by  Tom Hiddleston and finally his love interest Jane Foster portrayed by  Natalie Portman. Thor was met with great critical acclaim and  successfully managed to score the 77% approval ratings and 100% approval  ratings from the audience. It grossed over $435 million in the box  office thus solidifying its status as one of the greatest Superhero  Movies of all time.
9. Blade (1998)

Wesley Snipes portrayed this Character of Blade and Stephen Norrington  directed the movie. Although being a moderately successful in box office  with the gross of $131 million against the budget of $45 million, this  movie is regarded as one of the best Superhero movies and it was well  received by the critics and the audience.
8. Batman (1989)

Tim Burton delivered one of the greatest Superhero films of all time  with Michael Keaton as Batman and Kim Bassinger as Vicky Vale. The film  was a huge hit both critically and commercially and another very  interesting fact about this movie is that Jack Nicholsan portrayed the  character of Joker and he showed his classic acting skills. This film  grossed more than $410 million world wide and had a 71% approval ratings  from the critics and 90% approval ratings from the audience.
7. Spider-Man (2002)

Spider-Man which marked the first time that Spider-Man made his debut in  the live action film and this was done by Sam Raimi who directed this  movie and delivered one of the greatest hits. Tobey Maguire was chosen  to portray the role of Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst won the role of Mary  Jane Watson with Green Goblin portrayed by Willem Dafoe being the main  villain of the film. This movie met with great critical applause and  received 89% approval ratings from the critics and according to the  audience the Spider-Man has won their hearts completely. Spider-Man also  became the commercial hit and grossed over $820 million world wide.
6. Superman: The Movie (1978)

Superman: The Movie which was released in 1978 is known as the pinnacle  of mainstream cinema as this film became one of the greatest movies of  all time and also the greatest Superhero movies in the history. Marlon  Brando portrayed the character of Superman and Richard Donner served as  the director and the Legacy of this film is still alive today. It  grossed more $300 million world wide against the budget of $55 million  and got 90% of approval ratings from the critics and the audience hailed  this movie with five out of five stars.
5. Batman Begins (2005)

After the disastrous release of the 1997 film Batman and Robin, the  future projects was then put on the hold and there were many proposals  for the sequel and the reboot until Warner Bros. finally came up with an  idea to include Christopher Nolan as the director and Christian Bale as  the new Batman and this duo including various other cast and crew  proved very much successful as Nolan completely revolve the story from  the fantasy comic book hero to a reality. This film compared to the  previous has the much darker tone and the fear was the common factor and  the plot of the movie was very strong. Christian Bale portrayal of  Batman met with overwhelmingly positive reviews and this film had 84% of  approval rating from the critics and 100% approval ratings from the  audience and doing the business of over $350 million world wide.
4. X2: X-Men United (2003)

X2 was the sequel to X-Men 2000 and it stars the ensemble cast of Hugh  Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen,  James Marsden, Brian Cox, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Anna  Paquin and Bruce Davison. The film became a word wide hit grossing more  than $400 million and it also holds a strong 88% critics approval  ratings and 95% audience approval ratings. This action adventure was  directed by Bryan Singer.
3. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Tobey Maguire reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Sam Raimi  also returned as the director and together they delivered one of the  greatest hit films in the history. Tobey Maguire Faced Dr. Octavius  portrayed by Alfred Molina in this movie and also witnessed that he is  slowly losing his power. His true identity is also revealed in this  movie when his best friend Harry Osborn portrayed by James Franco founds  the truth and Mary Jane Watson portrayed by Kirsten Dunst also founds  that Peter Parker is actually the Spider-Man. This film also received a  Academy Award and holds 94% of approval ratings from the critics and  100% approval ratings from the audience and also grossing more than $780  million word wide.
2. Iron Man (2008)

Robert Downey Jr. played the famous role of Ton Stark/Iron Man and  delivered one of his signature performances. Iron Man was directed by  John Favreau and it unveils the plot of how Tony Stark happens to  develop the armor suit and how he became the Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow,  Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard also stars in this movie as Virgina  “Pepper” Potts, Obadiah Stane and James Rhodes respectively. This film  went on to become one of the successful Superhero Movies in the history  and it holds the 95% approval ratings from the critics and 100% approval  ratings from the audience and was also became commercially successful
1. The Dark Knight (2008)

Undoubtedly the greatest Superhero Movie of all time. Christopher Nolan  returned as the director and used his genius mind to develop the best  sequel ever in the history. Christian Bale as returned as Bruce  Wayne/Batman and he faced greater challenges and his most personal enemy  Joker portrayed by Heath Ledger and in the process also dealing with  Harvey Dent/Two-Face. The Dark Knight broke many records and currently  it is one of the 7 films to gross more than $1 billion word wide. It  also holds the 91% of approval ratings from the critics and 100%  approval ratings from the audience. It was nominated for 8 Academy  Awards and won 2. Heath Ledger who plays the role of the Joker received  the Academy Award for best Supporting Actor posthumously as he died just  after completing the shooting of the film.
